World Championships

Ilya Kovalchuk and Kari Lehtonen are playing for their respective countries in the IIHF World Championships

Ilya's Russian Squad is currently 2-0 outscoring their opponents 17-2 but Ilya's line isn't doing so hot (he only has one assist so far)...Alexei Morozov is having a hell of a tournament so far.

Kari's Finland Squad is currently 2-0 as well outscoring their opponents 11-2. Kari saved 17 of 19 shots in one game.

Russia and Finland play each other Tuesday night so that will be interesting...

Ilya has been quoted as saying that he looks forward to playing against Kari because he knows his weaknesses...so let's see how that works out if Kari is put in goal.

Update: Marian Hossa is also playing for the Slovakia team...and his team is also 2-0. Currently he has only one assist in one game.

Two prospects Ilya Nikulin and Tobias Enstrom are also playing in the tournament. As I said before, these guys are probably good enough to play for us now, it's just a matter of signing them. It's a fluke that we still have a chance for Nikulin but the rumor is that a contract has been agreed upon so we'll see what happens with that. Apparently he and Kovalchuk are good friends so I assume our Ilya is doing his recruiting.
