The following two tables show the salary cap situation of 1. The players we have signed for next year and 2. The possibilities of who I think the Thrashers will attempt to sign (with estimated salary cap numbers). Comments are written out to the right of the tables.
-Will Rucchin play next year? What cap penalty will we have to pay if he doesn't?
- So with only 8 players signed, we have a salary of well over half of the salary cap Remaining salary cap uses an estimated salary cap of 48 million
<--So we have an estimated 5.86 million to fill up 3 spots (either the healthy scratches or we can upgrade a certain position)
Here are my proposed lines with this roster
(players signed)
Hossa-Belanger-Kozlov
Kovalchuk-Rucchin-Dupuis
Larsen-Holik-Boulton
Little-Slater-Sterling
Zhitnik-Havelid
Exelby-Hnidy
Popovic-McCarthy
Lehtonen
Hedberg
So how does that roster look? Don't expect a lot of scoring from our checking line with this roster. Some differences may be that one of the rookies will play on the Kovy line while Dupuis is back on the checking line.
I do feel that one of Sutton or DeVries will be resigned...which one, I do not know
Some questions?
How much younger does Waddell want to take the team...I think we can sign more big names by signing younger players
Which young guys do get to play? And which positions close?
Do we keep Sim while putting Dupuis back on the checking line?
I feel that Boulton would typically be a healthy scratch (unless an enforcer is needed)...so if Sim is signed or another partner for Kovy, Dupuis will be moved back to checking
Will Rucchin play?
I think this team is a complete Kovy line and 2 complete D lines away from being a VERY good team.
Here is my top 5 on players we should resign and a preferred price
1. Dupuis @ 1.5
2. Kozlov @ 3.5
3. Exelby @ 1.5
4. Belanger @ 2
5. McCarthy @ 1
This will be updated as players are signed and any other information is leaked
